An illustrated pattern inspired by my research into life and decay cycles, earth connections, decomposers and burial. The textile depicts decomposition motifs like fungi, wilting flowers and cicada shells.
To create this textile I experimented with laser etching onto calico fabric. The machine burns marks onto the fabric, creating this very interesting effect where there is no ink or printing involved in translating my drawings. As calico is a natural fibre there are some areas of the design where the laser has burnt through the fabric leaving rips and frays, symbolic of decay and the ephemerality of life cycles in the natural world.
